Spain is one of the most varied European lands, where lush green woods and meadows are interspersed with sun-scorched wastelands, olive groves, a warm sea, a leaping ocean, beautiful beaches and spectacular mountains. It’s no wonder that the country also has a wide variety of people, cultures and food. It’s a place where anything is possible.

The Pyrenees and the Peaks of Europe (Picos de Europa), located in the northern part of the country, are no less beautiful than most other famous and high mountain ranges of the Old Continent. However, the snow-covered peaks of Sierra Nevada, situated in sun-drenched Southern Spain, are even more impressive. The dark, ocean-beaten cliffs of Galicia are very different from the quiet azure lagoons of the Mediterranean coastline.

Of Spain, most known something about Madrid, Barcelona, the sunny and tourist-beloved region of Andalusia, and the pilgrim road to Santiago de Compostela. On the other hand, if you go to Asturias, Cantabria, or the region of Valencia, you’ll experience still different things and meet all kinds of people.

The Spanish football culture is known all around the world, though perhaps not so many people realise that Spanish people are also well-represented in other sports, such as basketball, tennis, cycling and F-1.

Cultural life in Spain also fluctuates from hot parties in Ibiza to traditional flamenco dancing in Granada; from the world’s most exquisite restaurants and the surrealist architecture of Gaudí in Catalonia to blood-curdling running with the bulls in Pamplona.

Siestas and late dinners, a snacking culture, seafood and Spanish tomatoes, wines and olives, cheeses and sophisticated pastries – it’s a true gourmand’s paradise, only slightly dimmed by the shadow of Italy. Spain is a place that requires several weeks – or even months – to be properly explored.
