The isolated and as yet poorly explored modern Iran can surprise visitors not just with its long history, but also with its contemporary, futuristic structures, such as the Barin Ski Resort Hotel, located in the country’s second-largest ski resort Shemshak, just 55 minutes away from Tehran.

This hotel-studio, built in 2008, resembles igloos – the hotel’s architects were inspired by the Arctic snow and ice huts, the classic dwellings of Eskimos. Its futuristic shapes and lighting make the hotel a truly unique place. Everything here – the walls, ceilings, floors and even furniture – is painted in white and shaped like ice blocks and snowbanks.

This hotel, so foreign to the country’s mountains and weather conditions, was designed by the RYRO Studio. By building this hotel, the studio wanted to showcase a number of new ideas to help transform the relationship between nature and architecture, avoid repetition and obsolete Iranian forms. The total area of the hotel is only 60 sq. m.
