Bakuriani is one of Georgia’s three most popular ski resorts, located 30 km from another famous resort town – Borjomi.

Bakuriani is situated on the northern slopes of the Trialeti Range, 1,700-2,000 m above sea level. The town is surrounded by coniferous forests. By the way, this ancient landscape was formed by the flow of lava from the Mukheri Volcano.

The highest peak of this mountain range is 2,225 m high. Due to its long history, Bakuriani is considered to be one of Georgia’s most important winter sports centres. Many athletes from Georgia and the rest of the world come here to hone their professional skills, although the resort is also excellent for families with children, as well as those new to skiing.

Ski season here lasts January to late April. During the cold months, Bakuriani is often graced by clear skies and fairly warm temperatures that hover between 6-7 degrees below zero. December to March, the average snow cover thickness is 64 cm.

Visitors can enjoy sports entertainment all day long, as the resort has two ski tracks – 1,500 m and 3,000 m. Bakuriani is an excellent choice for skiers who like to try new spots. Furthermore, after a day out on the mountains, you can always return to Borjomi and get refreshed by mineral water. On the other hand, advanced skiers will likely try out all of the tracks fairly quickly and get bored.

Even though the resort is quite torpid during summer, many hotels open in winter. Bakuriani is also frequented by the locals who like to come here with their families. People bring their kids to Bakuriani to breathe the mountain air. As the place became popular, the government built a narrow-gauge railway from Borjomi to Bakuriani.
